As we enter the final term of this academic year it marks almost a year since Nurture at Home opened its doors. A ‘home nursery’ based in the beautiful setting of Spilsbury Cottage on The Green in Hallow.

In Nature

“We have become so very proud of the setting we have cultivated; with its dedicated playroom overlooking our peaceful garden and inviting messy play patio area, it’s been a beautiful place to spend time getting to know our first cohort of wonderful children.”

Together, Becky and Annie offer a nurturing and respectful environment purposefully maintaining a predictable and calm routine. They believe that children should feel safe and confident in their surroundings, so they take time to connect and build trusting relationships to ensure that the children feel seen, understood and valued.

“We are a small community, and as a result are able to offer a low ratio, meaning children can be responded to moment-to-moment by a trusted adult who they have grown a meaningful connection with. We are driven by the belief that children should be the leaders of their own play and move independently, to persist and practice, the joy of their own success is a magical thing to experience, for us and for themselves.”

An ever-evolving setting with changes that follow the seasons, there is a strong ethos of outdoor exploration and Nature is constantly providing new experiences. Nurture at Home want children to spend as much time outside as they can, with invitations to play and mealtimes being outdoors as often as possible.

“ We allow and encourage children to move freely and naturally so they can develop their gross and fine motor skills. Freedom of movement allows a child to develop both agility and coordination, and good judgement about what they can and cannot do. Children raised this way hardly ever have any serious accidents. It’s for this reason that we are constantly considering the risk benefits of our environment.”

Creative play is an important aspect at Nurture at Home and as a result of Becky’s passion for the importance of creativity in child development and well-being, resources are freely available to the children.

“ We know that it’s been a good day when we look around at a sea of creativity everywhere! To us painted windows, a patio in rainbow colours and child crafted puddles are the spoils of what has been an excellent day spent doing what children do best, exploring.”

It’s been an exciting year full of challenges, growth and excellent team work, proudly part of the Nurture family, Nurture At Home can’t wait to invite more families to their community. If you would like to learn more please get in touch.
